Clean Energy Communities Bonus Rewards

In addition to points earned from local sign-ups to CTCleanEnergyOptions, local clean energy installations and purchases of Green-e certified Renewable Energy Certificates by a local commercial and industrial (C&I) customer, municipalities can also earn bonus rewards.  In order for a city or town to qualify for the competitive or achievement rewards listed below, the city or town must already qualify as a Clean Energy Community.  Furthermore, the CCEF reserves the right to reallocate bonus rewards if circumstances warrant.

 

Competitive Rewards

Total Points* – first town to reach the following point targets will receive additional kW’s of solar PV or other clean energy technology:

  • 2,000 points – town receives 5 kW’s additional
  • 3,000 points – town receives 5 kW’s additional 
  • 4,000 points – town receives 5 kW’s additional

*For purposes of calculating points for this bonus reward, not more than 50% of the town’s total points can come from clean energy purchases by a commercial or industrial customer.

 

Household Penetration Rate – first town to reach the following penetration targets will receive additional kW’s of solar PV or other clean energy technology:

  • 30% - town receives 5 kW’s additional - Awarded to Cornwall
  • 50% - town receives 5 kW’s additional
  • 70% - town receives 5 kW’s additional

 

Achievement Rewards

Household Penetration Rate – Every city or town that achieves an incremental rate of 5.0% will receive 1 kW of additional solar PV or other clean energy technology.  Towns that have earned an achievement reward based on 2.5% penetration must achieve an additional 5% penetration to qualify again under this category. NEW: Towns that qualify by achieving points equal to 10% of the households in a community can now earn a bonus 1 kW for achieving 15% household penetration. These towns can continue to earn kW for each 10% household participation above 15%

 

EPA Green Power Communities – Every city or town that achieves this status will receive a 1 kW additional solar PV or other clean energy technology.  The targets established by the EPA are as follows:

  • Total electricity usage in the city or town over 100,000 MWh’s – 2% target;
  • Total electricity usage in the city or town between 10,000 and 100,000 MWh’s – 3% target;
  • Total electricity usage under 10,000 MWh’s – 6% target.

Significant Voluntary Clean Energy Purchases*– Every city or town that purchases clean energy for municipal facilities significantly greater than the 20% target will receive additional solar PV or other clean energy technology as follows:

  • 50% clean energy – town receives 1 kW extra;
  • 75% clean energy – town receives 2 kW extra (i.e. 1 kW in addition to the 1 kW earned for 50% purchase);
  • 100% clean energy – town receives 3 kW extra (i.e. 1 kW in addition to the 2 earned for 75% purchase).

 *To qualify for this reward, a town must contract to purchase at least 1 GWh of clean energy for a minimum of five years.
