 Eco-Friendly Is the “Inn” Thing

Saybrook Point Inn & Spa, located at the mouth of the Connecticut River, is firmly committed to protecting the environment and has earned several awards for its eco-friendly efforts. It was the first full-service hotel in Connecticut to receive the prestigious Energy Star certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, an award which recognizes superior energy performance.  The Saybrook Point Marina is also a four-time recipient of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection’s Clean Marina Award, being the first Connecticut marina to receive the award (in 2003), and has won seven Green Circle Awards, also from the Connecticut DEP.

The inn has undertaken numerous eco-friendly initiatives.  In 2008, it completed the installation of a 43.92-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system on its roof.  Using a solar monitor in the lobby, guests can see how much energy the 144 solar panels are producing.  Additionally, guests who attend “green meetings” have the opportunity to participate in private tours of the solar panels, as well as other green equipment on the premises.  Other eco-friendly initiatives include: water-efficient toilets and dishwashers, water-recycling laundry equipment, energy-efficient windows and doors, guest room recycling and conservation programs, and more. The inn is proud of its Green Team’s record of innovation and community involvement.

Saybrook Point Inn & Spa is a member of the Green Restaurant Association and the Green Spa Network and is also an EcoRooms & EcoSuites property. Additionally, in 2009, the inn earned the distinction of being one of Connecticut’s first hotels to be certified by the state as Green Lodging.

Saybrook Point Inn & Spa’s eco-friendly approach has not only helped preserve the environment but has also yielded significant cost savings for the inn – related to electricity, gas, oil and water costs.
