Cattle Farm Goes Green

Solar installations are popping up in all sorts of locations throughout Connecticut – even at a cattle farm in Roxbury.  The solar installation at Greyledge Farm consists of 30 solar panels mounted on the rooftop of the farm’s newly constructed barn.  It is supply approximately 75 percent of the total electrical needs of the farm.

The farm’s owner said that Greyledge Farm is committed to utilizing best practices in all aspects of raising its natural Black Angus herd.  The farm raises its cattle in a humane and stress-free natural environment, and its decision to utilize solar power for the offices, barn and calving facilities reflects Greyledge Farm’s commitment to adopting best environmental practices.  He noted that Greyledge Farm aims to be carbon efficient in the majority of its operations, and the farm’s investment in solar power was an important step in that direction.
