Town Description
Middletown is located in the center of the State of Connecticut, and is the largest city in Middlesex County. The population of Middletown is approximately 45,000 people and the area of the city is approximately 41 Square Miles. English settlers established Middletown in 1651 as an important port city on the Connecticut River.
Middletown is home to a diverse business community, which includes the likes of Aetna/US Healthcare, United Technologies/Pratt and Whitney and Middlesex Mutual Assurance. Other major employers in the City include Middlesex Hospital, Connecticut Valley Hospital Connecticut Light & Power and Wesleyan University, which is also “home” to approximately 3,000 students. The Central Business District is centered around Main Street, which includes many restaurants and specialty shops, including a newly opened 12 screen stadium style movie theater and a 100 room inn with conference and banquet facilities on site.
