2007: A Year of Powerful Growth
Momentum for clean energy continues to build in Connecticut. The Connecticut Clean
Energy Fund’s innovative, ongoing efforts to increase public awareness of the availability
and benefits of clean energy have achieved excellent results: More and more Connecticut
businesses, institutions, municipalities and individuals are choosing to purchase energy
generated by clean and renewable sources.
Greater public demand is one of the factors driving the growth of the market for clean energy. Another is the state’s requirement that electric distribution companies purchase a minimum of 100 megawatts of clean power by 2008. This substantial increase in market demand is in
turn fueling greater interest among developers, manufacturers and financiers for building
clean energy projects, and CCEF has the programs to support those projects.
Since beginning operations in 2000, the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund has been a powerful
catalyst for stimulating the development of clean energy markets and technologies in the
state. This year, we again saw measurable proof that our efforts are making a positive
difference. As noted throughout this report, we achieved notable increases in clean energy
installations. Interest in our programs among companies soared by 200 percent. And a
record number of cities and towns made the commitment to clean energy. Most important,
our support of clean energy projects prevented many tons of pollutants from entering the air.
We were especially gratified to have our work honored this year by the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. Those agencies presented the
Connecticut Clean Energy Fund and its partner, SmartPower, with the Green Power Pilot
Award for the organizations’ integrated program of cutting-edge outreach, innovative
marketing efforts and advanced Web-based communication that is winning clean energy
users by the thousands.
Clean energy is America’s future. Thanks to the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund,
Connecticut is at the forefront of this important transformation.
