First Connecticut Country Club to Go Solar
Wee Burn Country Club of Darien is doing its part to reduce its carbon footprint and mitigate global warming by generating clean energy. The first solar installation at a country club in Connecticut, Wee Burn’s 86-kW solar array, located on the roof of the maintenance building, is expected to produce 28 percent of the club’s electricity. The system’s 441 solar panels were installed by Mercury Solar Systems of New York. The club did not incur any installation costs, thanks to a power purchase agreement (PPA) between Wee Burn Country Club and ECNY Electric of New York. Under the terms of the PPA, ECNY Electric purchased and owns the solar PV system and sells the electricity the system generates to Wee Burn at below-market rates.
