One Building, Two Solar Installations
Pat Munger Construction, a turnkey general contracting company, installed two independent solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at the building it occupies in Branford. One system powers its office and shop space in the building and the other powers space used for the fabrication shop of Massey’s Plate Glass & Aluminum, Inc. Both solar electric installations were supported with grants from CCEF.
The solar array mounted on the roof above Pat Munger Construction is a 12.6-kilowatt, 70-panel system designed by Spire Solar Systems. It is generating approximately 50 percent of the electricity required by the company. The solar electric system is one component of the company’s Green Initiative and was made possible, in part, by a grant from CCEF, which helped to defray more than one third of the total project cost.
“Installing solar PV panels on the roof of our corporate office is allowing us the benefits of solar energy usage, as well as providing us with the experience necessary to offer these types of services to our customers,” stated David DeMaio, president, Pat Munger Construction. “Overall it is a win/win situation.”
