Expected Annual Electricity Generation (kWh): 35,385
Enjoying Immediate Energy Savings
The 119 solar panels mounted in 2009 on the roof of Fuss & O’Neill’s headquarters in Manchester, Connecticut, are expected to supply a significant portion of the power needed by the facility.
By installing solar, Fuss & O’Neill, a national civil and environmental engineering firm, is practicing what it preaches. Fuss & O’Neill’s CEO notes that the firm helps clients devise forward-thinking resource use practices and will now itself consume less of the outdated fuels of the past – coal and oil – by using a cutting-edge energy solution for its headquarters.
By utilizing a creative financing structure as well as a grant from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, the firm was able to have the solar energy system installed cost effectively – with no upfront capital investment on its part. The structure used to finance a portion of the project was a power purchase agreement (PPA). Under Fuss & O’Neill’s PPA, renewable energy developer EOS Ventures paid for a portion of the installation cost, owns the system and sells the solar-generated electricity back to Fuss & O’Neill. EOS Ventures’ CEO notes that Fuss & O’Neill gets the best of both worlds: strong environmental stewardship and immediate energy savings.
