Sister Solar Array Boosts Energy Output
The owner of the Centerbrook Architects building, Mainstream Inc., demonstrated its ongoing commitment to clean energy in 2007 by installing a second solar array on the property. The first solar array, on the southern-most building, was completed in 2006. The second, or “phase II”, solar array is situated on the property’s northern-most building. With its west roof orientation, this 123-panel photovoltaic system overlooks Mill Pond and the office parking lot to the west. The 26.45-kilowatt “phase II” system supplies about 21 percent of Centerbrook Architects’ electrical needs. It is one of the only commercial solar arrays in Middlesex County to utilize SunPower photovoltaic modules, the highest efficiency modules commercially available.
While the two solar arrays at Centerbrook Architects are electrically independent, their combined energy output accounts for about 31 percent of the electricity used by the entire site.
