An Example of Building-Integrated Solar PV
The solar PV system at Plainville High School was installed as part of a major renovation of the high school building. Consisting of 232 solar panels, the 172.61-kilowatt building-integrated system is supplying approximately 10.7 percent of the school’s electricity needs. Installed by a company that specializes in integrated technologies, the project introduced a promising new building-integrated PV technology to Connecticut, a technology that has been well-proven in other states. The introduction of this new building-integrated PV technology in Connecticut has helped to broaden the selection of PV system options available to prospective customers.
Administrators and educators around the state have clearly recognized that installing solar photovoltaic panels and other clean energy generating systems at their schools is a great way to support the environment, control energy costs and teach the benefits of going green. According to Plainville’s town manager, the solar array at Plainville High School has helped to reduce the school’s energy costs and has been so well-received that the town installed a similar system on the Toffolon Elementary School roof.
