A Sustainable Approach to Retail Sales
This Pilgrim Furniture City, opened in Milford in 2008, is one of the most earth-friendly furniture stores in Connecticut. Prior to opening the store, the owner remodeled and modernized the 1950s building, incorporating energy-efficient lighting and heating systems and installing one of New England’s largest solar photovoltaic systems on a commercial showroom. His goal: to make the showroom an example of a sustainable approach to retail sales. Pilgrim’s solar PV system consists of 1,500 solar panels that generate approximately 50-80 percent of the energy needed by the showroom.
On the store’s website, Pilgrim offers access to real-time data showing the amount of electricity being produced by its solar array.
