Established Manufacturer Adopts Solar
The Lee Company is committed to doing what it can to conserve energy and use renewable resources. Not only has it installed a 308-kilowatt solar array on the roof of a manufacturing building located in the company’s Pequot Park Road campus in Westbrook, but it has also installed energy-efficient lighting fixtures and variable speed pump and motor controls. The CCEF-supported solar array, consisting of 1,760 solar panels, covers an area that is almost the size of a football field. It supplies approximately 19 percent of the manufacturing facility’s electricity, enabling the company to save money on its electricity bills while protecting the environment. According to the Lee Company’s facilities manager, the solar PV installation has helped the company better position itself to continue investing and growing in Connecticut.
The Lee Company, founded in 1948, designs, manufactures and markets miniature precision fluid control components for aerospace, down-hole oil tools, machine tools, medical/scientific instrumentation, and ink-jet printing.
