Apartment Community Goes Green

Located on 47 acres of open fields surrounded by farmland, Mill Pond Village in East Windsor is an ideal setting for solar photovoltaics. Recognizing this, the developer of this 360-unit apartment community, WinnCompanies, installed solar panels on a number of buildings in the complex.

The solar panels at Mill Pond Village are part of a large-scale program by WinnCompanies to provide a total of nearly one megawatt of solar power at seven locations, including developments in Connecticut and Massachusetts. According to company officials, the scope of these installations on affordable housing units is one of the largest initiatives put forward in the United States.

As managers of 70,000 units of housing nationwide, most of which is affordable, WinnCompanies has a strong interest in developing and operating its properties as efficiently as possible. At the same time, the company wants to make environmentally responsible decisions.
