An Earth- and Solar-Friendly Farm
Solar-powered eggs? They are more than pie in the sky; at Flamig Farm in West Simsbury, they are a reality.
Flamig Farm unveiled its 11.38-kilowatt solar photovoltaic array at 2007 EGGSTOCK, an earth-friendly festival held annually at the farm. The Flamig Farm solar array, installed on the rooftop of the farm’s chicken coop, was the first farm-based solar installation in Connecticut to receive support from CCEF.
The farm’s owner said that Flamig Farm is a very public place with thousands of visitors per year, and it is doing what it can to educate people about the potential for solar energy and move the farm to the lowest possible carbon footprint.
