Preserving Local Farms
The solar photovoltaic array at Dove & Boar Farm in Hampton is one of the first to be installed at a working farm in Connecticut. The 15.60-kilowatt array, consisting of 78 solar panels, is located on the rooftop of the farm’s main barn and is supplying approximately 85 percent of Dove & Boar Farm’s energy needs. With its new solar array, the farm is now able to implement its five-year plan and be even more earth-friendly.
Dove & Boar Farm was able to reduce its outlay for installing the system by taking advantage of both state and federal incentives. In addition to the grant received from the CCEF, the project received a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture through its Farm Grant Program.
Farming has always been an important part of the character of our state. This installation is an excellent example of clean energy helping a Connecticut farm stabilize its energy costs and improve its bottom line. Solar PV systems such as this one can help in the preservation of local farms, which benefits all Connecticut citizens.
