Boosting Appeal with Solar

A commercial building located at 1139 Post Road in Fairfield is the site of a 5.50-kilowatt solar array. By installing solar panels on the building’s flat roof, the owner, Kleban Holding Company, a real estate development and management company, has attempted to make this commercial property more attractive to prospective tenants. Energy produced by the array reduces the building’s utility bills, so Kleban is able to pass along the utility cost savings to tenants. Additionally, Kleban can promote its use of “green” technologies.

The array’s 28 solar panels are providing approximately 39 percent of the building’s electrical needs. Further, since the output of the solar photovoltaic system occurs primarily during the utility company’s “on-peak” hours, this system reduces the load on the southwest Connecticut grid during the hours when it is most needed.
